1280. Hugh McGuire Cory¹ was born on 11 Jan 1844 in Hunterville, Hardin Co, OH. He died on 17 Jan 1921 in Sac City, Sac Co, IA. BIOGRAPHY
Hugh, the third son of of Francis, was raised to manhood on the old
Cory farm located South East of Sac City on the East side of the Coon
River, Sac County, Iowa. He enlisted March 27, 1864 in Company K
Seventh Iowa Volunteer Calvary. His company was engaged primarily in
the West, along the frontier, keeping a vigilance on the Indians.
There were many a skirmish with roving bands, that prevented them
from joining main bodies, which could prove to be a formable foe.
After returning from the wars he pre-empted one hundred and sixty
acres of government land, but was unfortunate in losing it in a short
time. Shortly after his marriage to Alice, he purchased the old Cory
Homestead. Hugh and Alice occupied the old log cabin where he raised
his family. As the family increased he erected a comfortable farm
dwelling. There they remained until his retirement to Sac City. Hugh
was a Charter member of the Masonic Lodge of Sac City, Iowa. At an
Early age he joined the IOOF, filled all the chairs. He has served his
grand lodge many times. He is well versed in the secret work of both
lodges. Hugh is buried in the Cory Grove Cemetery, land given by his
father.

Hugh McGuire Cory and Alice Rebecca LaGourge were married on 15 Mar 1867 in Sac Co, IA. Alice Rebecca LaGourge¹ (daughter of William Victor LaGourge and Elizabeth Austin) was born on 25 Mar 1851 in Linn Co, IA. She died on 30 Dec 1920 in Sac City, Sac Co, IA. BIOGRAPHY
William Victor LaGourge, Alice's Father was a native of Jamaica and
the son of French Canadian parents. He was a sailor until he went to
Ohio. In 1850 he married Elizabeth who was a native of Canada. They
were one of the first families along with Francis Cory to settle in
Sac County Iowa in 1854. He then migrated to Nebraska as Iowa was
getting too crowded. Hugh McGuire Cory and Alice Rebecca LaGourge had the following children:
