Second Generation

2. John Cory1,2 was born before 11 Apr 1611 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England. He was christened on 11 Apr 1611 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England. He died in 1660 in England. John, a widower, immigrated to New England with his young son, William, his mother, Ann Waulker Correy Roome, and his step father, John Roome. They arrived at the colony of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, in appro ximately 1638 from Bristol, England.

John Correy disappeared from Portsmouth some time after 1643, possibl y to escape prosecution for making insulting remarks about the Governor.

Shortly thereafter a John Correy appeared in Southampton, Long Island , and a few years later a John Cory showed up in Southold, Long Island, where he married and raised a large family. No documentary evidenc e has been found as of this date to prove the supposition that the three Johns are actually one and the same. One disparity is that John of Southold was a weaver rather than a sailor. There is also evidenc e (see the notes with Anne Waulker Correy Roome and William Corey) in Anne's diary and property transfers that William wa s his father's sole surviving heir, and that his grandmother had the authority to transfer John's property to William and his heirs.
John Cory and were married in 1638.
